This is the first of what I’m sure will be plenty of quick posts about little things that people screw up that bother me. Most people don’t notice or don’t care, but I know that the few readers I have notice these kinds of things. I’m sure I screw up a lot, too, but remember, I’m on a mission to civilize…
I heard it three times today, and all three times, it was wrong.
People said, “I could care less” about something. Surely, what they meant to say was “I couldn’t care less” about something.
Think about it. It just makes sense. It’s just how the words are supposed to go; there’s no secret to it, but plenty of people screw it up. If you’re not interested at all in something, you COULDN’T care less about it.
There’s a good chance that I couldn’t care less if you could care less because there’s a good chance that you’re just not saying what you mean.
“I’ve learned to ignore everything. In the beginning, I thought I was too sensitive for this. I’d Google myself, and it would freak me out. Now, I could care less if they say I’m pregnant with twins by my brother.”
